Whats the easiest?

Hows the easiest way of being found on google or any other search engine? Ive been told of meta tags, but what use are they and how do i implement them properly?

Wow... Really broad question. Here are some thoughts....

1.. Read everything in this forum
2.. SUbmit to ODP
3.. Find people that want to link to you
4.. Keep adding content. Content rules.
5.. Write good code. Validate it.
6.. Read everything in this forum

There is a lot to it, but it's all little steps.

[webmasterworld.com...] has been often recommended by the experts in WW as a good starting point.

And forget everything about meta tags. Description and (if you really must) Keywords are the only ones you need:

Plan your design for the user. Good clear, clean navigation will pay in the long run.

Understand that Google is not the only search engine out there. Don't design just for Google. Google is up now, but who is to say it will always be that way.

it's refering to the relative importance of each of those page items. With google, the page title and the text used in the links to your site are very important to get ranked well for your chosen phrases

if your page is about blue jeans - (i'm not proclaiming to be an SEO expert, still quite new to it myself, but from what I've read) write you page something like:

<html>
<head>
<title>blue jeans</title>
<and the other bits you want in the head section>
</head>
<body>
<h1>blue jeans</h1>
blue jeans are great: about a few hundred words about blue jeans - you can always break the page up with a
<h2>the history of blue jeans</h2>
and a couple of links to well ranked sites, such as this <a href="http://www.anothersite.com/" title="the making of blue jeans">blue jeans</a> website has some great information about how to make jeans.
mentioning the phase blue jeans a few times but not making your content unreadable - a <b>blue jeans</b> wouldn't hurt.
</body>
</html>

get some links pointing at the page that say blue jeans i.e. the link would be <a href="http://www.yousite.com/blue-jeans.html title="blue jeans information">Blue Jeans</a>

I'm sure there's plenty more that you'll learn on these forums but that seems like at least a starter - and as people have already mentioned read through bretts 26 steps [searchengineworld.com...]
