forwarding pages

I have a couple old pages that are still linked in google but they are *.html and the new pages with the relatively same contact are *.shtml

How do i forward the *.html to the *.shtml page?

What you are looking for is a 301 redirect. Try doing a site search for that, as there are lots of good posts on the subject.

I came across this quite elaborate post:

and was wondering if you geniuses can be the basic line that i need to put into the .htacess file (which is blank is that normal)

that will take filea.html and put into fileb.html

using a 301
