I could always put a page counter on my web site but I think there are services which actually track your "hits"? Is there something like this where I can tell where my hits are coming from, wheather that be search robots or actual people?

Any advide on this subject would be appreciated.

(Keep in mind, I'm on a tight budget and want to do this the most cost effective way) ;)

Thanks!

Most of the free trackers are image based, so you won't see any spiders.

The best thing is to analyze your log files. If your host offers raw logs, you can download them. Then run an analyzer on them to produce reports. This might be more advanced than what you are looking for though.

I'd suggest you go read through the threads in the Tracking and Logging forum - specifically:

[webmasterworld.com...]

I think you'll find a lot of info there to get you started.
