I have plenty of unused disk space and bandwidth on BOTH hosts.
What I would like to do is mirror my main website on host B so that, if host A gets constipated, folks can still access my main site by going to its Host B location.
How can I do this such that, if someone enters mymainsite.com in their browser, and IF Host A is down, then that someone gets taken to mirrorofmymainsite.com on Host B?

WebmasterWorld member CdCardMain has done just what you want to do - see this thread [webmasterworld.com].

I don't think he's done it yet, as implied by his request for comments...
The problem with the idea is the way the net works. (It's also described in the linked thread.)
Unless you have nameservers whose job it is to ping your site and see if its up, then if not roll over to the other IP, you're not going to get very good results.(even then, kind of iffy)
Thanks to jd for putting me onto an interesting thread.
Thanks to Slade for making sure that I read *the REST of the story* -- which otherwise I probably would not have done. In fact, my hand was on the switch.
Now that I have learned a way that will NOT work, I wonder -- is there any way that WILL work [that doesn't cost an arm & a leg]?
Aloha, Bellgamin
