listserv hosting problems

Hi everyone,
I'm brand new here. I just inherited responsibility for a not-for-profit website and listserv. We have about 1200 members on the list and the costs are soaring as membership grows. I know next to nothing about listserv, I only know that the list is being hosted with them. Is it possible to move a listserv list to another host, or do I have to find a whole new program and host service? This is just the start of my problems with this organization, but I'm confident I'll get them all sorted out, with a little help. Thanks in advance.

If you have a webserver that can send mail (as most of them can), you can probably run the list yourself. I've found mailman from list.org to be one of the best around. It's free and libre, contains a web interface for both you and your subscribers, and is recognized as a standard by many users.

If you're not comfortable hosting it yourself like that, you may want to continue paying someone to host your mailing list, though I'd look into different pricing schemes.
