My daughter asked me to help her build a simple website where she can sell her handmade jewelry.

A little background:

I was a web designer for years. Started with FrontPage, then hired someone to get it into shape behind the scenes when CSS came along. I created, ran and wrote for the approximately 1000 page site for 14 years before selling it on Flippa. After selling it, I created a modest number simple WordPress sites for clients.

So where does this experience leave me? I don't know. I don't remember much about creating a site and my daughter knows nothing.

I'm looking for a recommendation of something very simple that has a basic store to display and sell her jewelry. I've spent a couple of hours researching what's available today that meets our "skill" level. I keep coming back to Wix.

Does Wix sound like a good choice? Thank you so much!

PS I've been a writer, photographer, and still do some graphic design work so putting "stuff" on the site isn't really a concern for me. Building a site is.

Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with Wix. The nice thing about it for neophytes is that it keeps the focus on the end product and not on the techie details. Just set my own daughter up with a wix site last fall. Sure, it has some limitations, but over all - it works for getting started.

Thank you Brett!

Your reply is extremely encouraging. We'll go for WIX and start next week after she returns from a short trip.

You already know how to do Wordpress. You could start with a Wordpress site and add the WooCommerce or Shopify plugin for the e-commerce store. You can choose your own web host provider (wherever you create and house your site). In the future the Wordpress site can be migrated. There are so many plugins you can add to a Wordpress site. Wordpress is also easily indexed by Googls search. Just make sure to keep it the plugins updated.

I second the recommendation of Wix.

Wix takes care of all the back end stuff, updates, structured data and makes it easy to create an ecommerce site. It has also made strides in becoming SEO friendly, fast and responsive.

In fact, in terms of performance speed, it significantly outperforms WordPress.

Many thanks, too, to TorontoBoy and martinibuster!

I think we'll go with WIX. It's a long time since I've used WordPress. Plus, a few years ago, I did a little work for an artist who used WIX for her site.

Will give it a try next week when my daughter returns from a brief trip. It's five years since I've worked on a site so this is going to be interesting.
