Want to learn ASP

Newbie in need.

Hi all at WW

I am looking for a really good (preferably) free resource for learning ASP. Have had a look around and there are loads of sites, it's all getting a bit confusing!

I would be very grateful to hear if any other WW members have found a really good site or other resource to get started.

I learned everything I know from tearing apart the free scripts I downloaded at HotScripts.Com. If you can learn from examples, it's an absolutely fantastic resource.

Personally I came into ASP from a VB background but hopefully this will help you no matter where you come from - I started with "Beginning Active Server Pages 3.0" by WROX press (ISBN 1-861003-38-2).

As a programmer already I found parts of it a little preachy/basic, but after a while it levelled out and I started to actually learn stuff - and useful stuff at that.

My nature meant that after I'd learnt a certain amount I decided that it was easier to attempt to build something I wanted to build rather than go through their examples.

I found it very easy to apply what they had earlier covered to my own problems and when/if I got stuck I simply referred back to their index to look up the correct solution.

I still refer back to it from time to time when I need to check the odd thing so it's good enough to pass the test of time too :)

I'm pretty much the same by nature as well. Once I have a few basics under my belt, I like to get going and learn on the fly. Very interesting to learn that there is an online script database as well!
