Migration of the same domain

Hello,

The company I am interning in is going to launch a new website design. But the categories and the URLs are going to remain the same. So how would be the best way to migrate it? Do we have to create an .htaccess file with redirections 301?

Is this just a new website design? If only the appearance is changing, there is no need to redirect anything unless there are changes to the URLs.

As not2easy said there would nothing to redirect if the urls are remaining the exactly the same.

Check with their hosting. You could possibly upload the new website to a new folder then point the domain name to that folder. This would be a precaution against the site crashing because it was developed and worked fine on a different server setup.
