I have posted this question on a couple other forums but I felt I had to get the opinions of the people here too.
I am looking for a good tool or template for building a good index page. If nothing like that exists, I am looking for a good example / source code for an Index page. I prefer it would be in PHP.
There are all sorts of CMS's which provide an index page that is basically the front page of the system. But what if I have several systems on my web site and I just want a good Index page? Are there good templates that are free that I can use just to make the first page of my website that the user sees?
There are some common things that I find with every good front or index page. I would like it to have an automatic scrolling picture box (for lack of a better description) that shows features of the web site that the user can click on. Plus, I would like it to have a good drop down menu.
The web sites I have found all seem to have the same components to their first index page. They all seem to have a menu at the top, of course, but the also all seem to have some sort of flashy or moving banner that instantly captures the user's interest. For example, www.seattleu.edu has one but it it written in asp.net and I would like to find an example in php. Does anyone know what the official term for this thing would be?
All of the web sites I like seem to have the same components: Menu at the top; A good Logo; a scrolling picture banner at the top; middle content; then a kind of submenu at the bottom.
Here is a list of other good web sites I have found that I would like to emulate:
goyello.com
cynergysystems.com
getsatisfaction.com
componentone.com
microsoftconfidential.com
viblend.com
interactivewebs.com
sitefinity.com
