I need your help.

I am trying to create a button(square) with a 3d raised border effect with half shaded border.

How do I achieve this using photoshop.

I think its ok, I found it through EFFECTS - Bevel and emboss. Thanks any way.

You might consider picking up a good beginners tutorial book/CD to work through.... there are so many commands hidden in Photoshop's menus, being guided through the main features would probably be a great help if you're just learning the program. :)

Yes, it's bevel and emboss

Its fairly easy to alter the depth of the emboss, its type and angle of illumination in that feature.

As you are in UK, if you go to a bookshop like Ottakers (don't think WH Smith have a large range) you can browse the shelves to get something that suits you.

You can teach yourself, but it really is much quicker from a book (or better still find someone to give you hands on). Photoshop is so large, that I don't think any of us use it to the full

I find the web very good for many things, but when it comes to learning the itty gritty of fairly complex software like Photoshop, I personally would shell out the fairly modest sum for a book (well modest in relation to the price of Photoshop)
