help with bots, spiders etc pleeaaase

im helping out on a new music site. its my first foray into the world of web development.

been lurking around this forum for a few days, and i have wound up very confused with all this talk about bots and spiders.

what are they? how do they work? can anyone point me perhaps to a site or thread on here for complete novices like myself?

I appreciate any help on this as my brains fried at the moment. Also, i apologise if i've missed anything blatently obvious.

First off, you should read [searchengineworld.com...]

Bot is short for robot. If you use the WebmasterWorld Search you will find quite a bit of information on these subjects and the related subjects. Far too much for anyone to list. You'll need to do some reading - ok - a lot of reading but it's worth it. :)
