i have a small site that i created myself selling vintage handbags - and i am considering investing in and learning Flash to make it look more polished...
but not sure if it will really add anything in terms of traffic or sales....
any opinions?
The cool factor wears off very quickly on web sites. Usually by the second or third visit. After that it becomes annoying.
If you've ever visited a site that has moving banner ads, you'll understand the annoyance.
Flash is an excellent program for a lot of things. But to use it for its own sake is pointless.
If you have a need for some type of animation on your site, Flash is an excellent choice.
But on a standard eCommerce site? It quickly loses its appeal.
I suggest you read these threads for some great insight to peoples feels on Flash. The Flash resource list [webmasterworld.com] and "Successful" Flash sites [webmasterworld.com].
It completely depends on your market audience and your requirements. Like txbakers said, if you are only doing it for the sake of doing it then I would suggest not to.
