Hi again,

I've got my website almost ready to go live (~120 pages).
It will grow dramatically over the next year, so if I need to change the bones, now's the time!

Right now the site has been built using SSI with the .shtml extension. SSI is being (and will be) used on 99% of the pages.

Is there any point to me changing the .shtml filenames to .html (and using htaccess) before we go live?

Thank goodness you all are here to ask!
(Wish I'd asked earlier! LOL)

Julia

Sorry about the delay getting back to you. I don't see any real benefit from changing the page names except perhaps to hide the sites internal workings. For example if you use .htm or .html people will not really know you are using SSI.

From a ranking point of view the page extension really doesn't matter nearly as much as it used to.

I think the question is how long will it take and is there any real benefit.

Let us know what you decide.

Mack.

There's absolutely no reason to change these.

Your users will never see these extensions, nor will their browsers. SSIs are seen only by your webserver.

The ONLY reason I could see for changing this is if your HTML editor can't be associated with .shtml files.
