I read the great post with teh 26 steps to promoting my site. That is great and it helped me out. Now, I have a blog that has been up for a few months but is not active (that will change soon). I hear people talking about promoting through blog directories? Is that a good idea? If so, where can I find a list of blog directories to submit to? Also, what about the Ezine sites? Should I be submitting my blog articles to them to gain vistors? I know about link building and SEO....I plan on adding content often. Just looking to develop a plan that will get my blog going! Thanks everyone..any suggestions will be great!

I don't know much about promoting a site, but I would suggest that you use both Feedburner and Google Analytics so that you can see what your readers are looking at and looking for. They will also let you see how many readers you are getting so that you can see if your promotion strategies are actually working.

Take a look at the forums in The Marketing World [webmasterworld.com] section of this site.

By default, a Wordpress installation will ping the Pingomatic site and that announces new blog posts to technorati, yahoo and many many others.

Get some analytics software on there and find out which pages are bringing in visitors and which search terms they use and build more along those lines. That will get you started.

The easiest way to start promoting your blog is by commenting on other people's blogs. I don't mean comment spam either. I mean thoughtful, well reasoned comments on blogs that cover similar ideas, opposing ideas, same hobby, etc.

Find something interesting on someone else's blog but a comment just won't cover it? Write a post on your blog and link to their post. Link early, link often. Others will return the favor.

If you happen to get a post submitted to Digg or other social sites, the links will flow freely.
