Hello,

I am a freelance web designer yet to find a niche website for myself! I currently make a 'decent living' with my web design work but I have long felt the need to go out and try something on my own.

I will just list out some of my strengths that I believe I possess:

I create outstanding web layouts and interfaces. ( Don't all designers say that! Hey, but I mean I really got the stuff to prove what I can do.) Infact, I have received top-notch feedback and features on nearly all of my works and I could easily continue on what I am doing. You might ask then why don't I go ahead and strengthen up my web design business then. But good as I maybe in web design, will I be able to stand out among the plethora of web design sites that are out there..? Isin't this a hugely saturated market...?

In addition, I am interested in anything visual including skinning, animation, 3D...

I notice that you guys here are so good at finding and marketing key niches. Eventhough telling somebody what their specific niche is quite impossible, I would be more than happy if you guys could fling out some ideas that you think I should try...

Thanks...

This probably isn't exactly what you have in mind, but we found a pretty good niche in "websites that work and designers who actually return phone calls and emails." ;-)

Are you super solid with any popular platform for blogging or content management? If so, you can shoot for the theming market (i.e. for Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal). I suspect there are lots of people who are reasonably technically savvy and can build a pretty functional website with these but they look terrible and could really get a boost from a top notch designer.

I'm thinking of myself, just with a bigger budget ;-)

And of course there's always real estate! I can't think of another field where the average "line worker" buys a billboard with his picture on it (will spend for ego and image) and yet nevertheless the industry seems overrun with ugly websites.
