I'm a newbie as well, and I can't say for sure whats right for your site as I guess it's also depends on what kind of website you have made. But my first advise will be to make a website visitors like to come back to.
My second advise is to make a site that get trafic from earlier visitors, while my third advise is to make a site that is popular by earlier vistors.

Sure you have to do all this small items as title, url, keyword, etc. But for my site it seems like the most important was to get the visitors back. That means you have to give them all that info they want.

This takes some time, but for my site I'm sure I did the right thing. At least for those visitors using google. Even my site is not in English or any other large language, I got links from nearby all over the world as it seems like people are able to read it anyway. Other people might have suggestions i did not think about.

First of all you have to determine your target visitors – what are those people who you want to visit your site. This really depends on your site’s field. If you can make an example of your site – I’d try to help you.

mumtaz, I'm sure the "Marketing" forum on this board is pretty daunting for someone new. You might want to first check out the library, which has the most helpful threads archived. At the bottom of each library page, you can use the drop-down list to choose the forum you're interested in. Besides Marketing, it could also be useful to check out the library threads for this "New to Web Development" forum. I found this thread there, with some very good info given by mack:

Thanks for the link Beagle.

If mack is right I'm smarter than I thought I was :-)
It's not only myself and maybe mumtaz that could benefit with this information.
Also thanks to mack for great posting. It's very good help for us newbies. Together with of lot of other postings I think most people could make a succesful site. Even myself.

Still I feel i could benefit with more info on the glossary pages. It's a lot of descriptions to learn to follow discussions, and new buzzwords are comming up all the time. But for those willing to learn I think webmasertworld is a must.

I'm glad you liked the post!

That was written quite some time ago, but has faired the test of time pretty well. A lot of that information is still very relevant in todays market.

The key has to be the user. After all the bots don't buy anythign :)
