Help with new website

Hi all. It's me again! I've managed to ftp my index page to my hosts file manager. I have a little problem though. My site shows up when I type: [mysite.com...] into the address bar, but my it will not show when I just type in [mysite.com...] All that comes up is a temporary page from my host which allows me to login to my file manager area? I've emailed them, but it's the weekend and I was wondering if anyone here knew what to do? If I go to my www/htdoc area in file manager, I see that they have a manager.html doc already in there. This manager.html doc is where this odd page resides. Problem is that it's a read only file and I can't change it to my own index page! Any help would be appreciated! :)

You might want to check and see what your host wants you to call your index page. It is *usually* 'index.html', but not always. Sometimes, they have the name set up as: 'index.htm' <-no 'l' on the end.

This shoudl be in the FAQ's of your host's page.

I did check to FAQ's and they wanted me to name the main page index.html I did that and I have the problem that I mentionned above :( I just don't understand it!

Can someone Please help? I am getting extremly frustrated! I did EVERYthing my host has asked me. I uploaded my index.html file to the exact directory that it wanted me to. That's all it said I needed to do...obviously NOT! Yet, there are no further instructions..I've emailed them and Nothing...When I type in: [mysite.com...] all I get is there temporary page for my site where I can log in to my file manager...and it also says on this page that my site is at: www/htdocs/index.html What? Yet, if I type in: [mysite.com...] my site shows up perfectly fine. I only just set up my account and ftp'd them my site on the 13th. Is this just a matter of waiting for my site to hit all DNS servers? I am completely new and lost with this hosting stuff. To me it's like Chinese and I'm trying to get it, but am getting VERY frustrated because it is NOT working :(

it's got nothing to do with DSN.
if you are able to get www.mysite.com to work then DNS is working.

try the following:
1) rename your main page index.htm
2) rename your main page home.htm or home.html

what options do you have in the file manager if you log in?
try taking a look around in there.

Strange...I didn't do a single thing and now it works? Now I'm really confused! :) But happier. Thanks guys for all of your help!

Could the time delay have anything to do with resolving the name to the IP?

that was most likely your browser or your ISP caching the original page.
all you needed to do was hold down control and click refresh a couple of times to force the browser to refresh.
if that hadn't cleared it, you could have tried clearing the browser cache from tools->internet options->delete files
and if that didn't work, try with another ISP or wait 24 hours and it'll clear itself up.

No. The DN was already resolving to the IP - davewray said he saw his temporary page. I think I agree with crazy_fool on this one. Could be either the host finally dealt with the issue or - more likely - the browser cache just needed to be flushed/updated.

Thanks a lot for your help guys! It's now working and I'm adding content like mad before Google shows up ;)
