I know that having a google sitemap can't hurt your site rankings, but is there anything extra I should know about having a sitemap.xml dropped into the main directory that poses any sort of security or, I don't know, prankster problems?! I want to set the site up as best I can for Google, but don't want to unwittingly cause myself more problems either.
Thanks to anyone who can lend me their two cents.
The pages listed are those you want people to be able to find so there should be no problem if third parties stumble across the xml file.
If anybody managed to hack your site they would probably be looking to do something more spectacular or damaging than playing games with sitemap.xml
