Hi Guys,

I'm sooo new at this online marketing scene that I feel like a complete moron!

I have a product to sell..so thats base one covered. I have invested in many programs...(lots of dollars) but I am struggling with this whole Wordtracker thing..(yep, I told you I was at the beginning of this journey).

Is there ANY info that explains Wordtracker easier than the Tutorial that they give. I believe its the best Keyword search tool.

I'm really frustrated as i understand that this is the cornerstone of everything else i need to achieve getting people to my website (when I eventually get to the part of designing one...that I'm sure will be another interesting project...laughing here

I really appreciate your help

Smiles to you

Yvonne

Greetings and welcome to WebmasterWorld!
I personally consider WT as only part of the equation. They don't get data from Google and their view/data is skewed for several reasons. That being said it isn't worthless - just don't count on it as your sole source of information.

So - as for using WT: start off with the Simple Search tool and get comfortable with that first. I don't put a lot of faith in the actual numbers but rather look at the spreads between them. You could also try the Keyword Universe tool. Feed it a keyword you know and see what it generates. Pretty handy if you know what might make good keywords when you see them.

or am I missing what you were asking for?

Hi Lorax,

Thank you for your reply. That is very interesting as I keep reading various articles that swear blind that word tracker is the only way to go....but it doesn't surprise me that its not. I know it only covers the US and now the UK...so that in itself lacks credibility in my books..I found it a little difficult to work out how you could calculate keywords if you only had 2 countries data?...but hey I'm internet marketing challenged at the moment and not in a position to argue otherwise (smiling here).

Is there a keyword search tool that is precise?..As (once again) I read that you will die a low a painful internet death if you don't build your site and its contents around keywords!

Hard to know what to do when you are a Newbie to the online world

Your advice would be greatly appreciated and thank you for the welcome!

Smiles to you

Yvonne

>> keyword search tool that is precise

nope. And I wouldn't trust anyone that says they have one. There is far too much data and much of it is proprietary (like Google). I don't blame them for keeping it to themselves but it does make our job harder.

Most of what we know about keywords and their worth comes from a combination of hard data (your own numbers), soft data (that provided by someone else), and your own experience and intuition. Oh, and then there's good-ole fashion trial and error.

You do your best to get started. Take notes, collect information from your site's stats (especially keywords used to find it) and you watch performance. Then you tweak accordingly.

If you get into the online advertising game, be sure you have a game plan that allows you to measure your ROI.

ROI = Return On Investment

The point of watching ROI is that if you spend a dollar on advertising you need to make sure it generates at least a dollar in new profits. You want all advertising to pay for itself and leave something in your pocket besides.

Don't obsess too much about discovering the "perfect" keywords. Think more in terms of "good enough to start with". Lorax is right; you'll do a lot of fine-tuning as you go.

Expect it to take time and hard work to rank well for productive searches.

That's spot on. Keywords are sometimes moving targets. What works today may not work tomorrow.

One resource that's frequently overlooked: yourself. Start with the product and your knowledge of it. And friends and family can be your own test group for "over the shoulder" research.
