How do I create a Private Policy and Terms of Use

Do I need a lawyer for this?

I have a new site and don't know what to do about private policy and terms of use. Is there a site that can help explain how to set this up with best practices?

Thank you!

PP's and TOU's vary with the purpose of the site. There are boiler plates which can be modified and can be found through a web search for privacy policy and terms of use templates. However, if you site is such that you are truly concerned about these, consult an attorney. IMHO, most of these things are posted, more or less, in good faith.

I disagree for the reason that such policies exist to impose limits on liability. I suppose the scope of the documentation would be limited to the services or products offered but I wouldn't cut yourself short in the legal department if you think you need a professional opinion.

For instance, a site offering financial quoting services would have to limit their relationship with providers in their policies or risk becoming the target themselves. On the other hand, a site selling fuzzy pink slippers probably doesn't have to worry too much about product misuse or injury resulting from use.

If you're in the UK, Business Link [businesslink.gov.uk] from the UK government provides samples you can work from.

try typing in 'ecommerce terms and conditions' in google and you'll get a list of sites where you can buy a template for about $60 / £30.
