What is best practice when testing a new DB. Should you use the Developer's test server, or post to your own server?

That depends. Who are you?

That is, what is your role? I'm guessing you've hired a developer, and you are the site owner?

Depends. This is something to work-out with the developer. What kind of testing? The developer presumably has already tested the database for technical flaws.

If you want to gain some experience using the database before going live, the developer may not want you using their database where they may have loaded specific test data. They may be able to provide you with a separate play-pen, or can assist you with setting-up your own database.

There's no right answer here.

Correct - and they have set up the test db on both their server and also on mine. So I'll use my Server, for experience.
