I have a site for the provice of Québec Canada. It is like a community journal.

I have emailed the citizens of the town that gave the site its name. But I need to expand.

(nb. The town is 500 people and you can not earn money from them... They are french hill billys and not receptive. But it is in the centre of the region and has much controversy.. That is why I choose it.)

I have looked at banner echange systems with credit impression stuff, the purchase of traffic and some people offering to email eveyone on earth for me... And there is so many that I am completely confused.

I can create good content but no one is seeing it.

I would a pointing in the correct direction.
thank you

Build links and more content. If the site is of regional interest, try radio or newspaper ads.

rural Québec. (And I am not trying to be of malness but it is hard for americans to understand rural Québec. A province 3 times the size of France (bigger than Texas)
And only 7 million people. Most living in Montreal and Québec ville.)

Newspaper and radio isn't a very good option.

1 newspaper and it will be a fortune.
Most likely printed wrong and generally not read.

Radio doesn't work well in the mountain areas.

But goodly news most rural areas in Québec have internet because of goverment endevours. (I think the expression is programs par the gouverment)

So I really need internet solution.
I remeber the days of the past with webrings. But I can not find them now.

Who is the site aimed at? Residents? Outsiders? The province? International? Is it serious or satirical? How exactly are you looking to expand, are you wanting to use the controversy?

this is probably a stupid idea, but you said it's a community journal... and the town is only 500 people... so maybe you could mail them a digest every two months? how many households is it, 300 or so?

presumably the townspeople will all be contributing to your site, if it's a community journal, so just gather together all the best stuff every couple of months into a newsletter kind-of thing, and post it to them so they can see what they're missing. they are more likely to read a community journal dropping through their door than an ad in a newspaper.

it might get them interested enough to visit, and take part.

are french hill billys and not receptive. But it is in the centre of the region and has much controversy.

If the people themselves are not receptive, yet has much controversy, then go to the people on the other side of the controversy and give them a voice.

In the end, if you can't get people interested in your project, then there's probably not much interest in it to begin with, and it's probably time to move on to something else that can generate more interest.

Michel

As a fellow begineer, I can tell you that building decent traffic is hard, sustaining traffic is hard,

What would you be selling, who would wanna buy what you're selling?

To give you an Idea, using adsense, in a lot of niches, you would need 1,000 people every day to visit your website, to be sure of $10 per day, most sites that can get up to an more than 1,000 people a day have a worldwide audience to tempt, do you?

Unless you are happy to do this for nothing, and to lose a lot of money, and i mean a lot off money, this has the potential to cost you a lot of time an money and yield nothing

You really have to live there to understand what the probleme are and what the advantage is.

Geographically it is the centre point between two coasts of the mouth of the saint lawerence. There is 2 hotels, skiing, gas station and a major wind turbine electricité projet.

Plus the Canadien gouverment is offering grants to EXISTING succesful business to create endevours with the town.

It is a major thourgh pass with nothing in between to get from one coast to the other. To go from one section to the next you must pass via the town.

This makes it attractive to create an endevour for there.

The negative parts is this...

But the town is isolated in the mountains and it is a former mine factory community that closeded it's mine. The personages of the citizens are still circa 1953, 50% of the people receive cheques social par the gouverment and education is very low. And on some levels they still wage the français english wars. The are very fearful of anything new.

The secret to making any business work there is to get outsiders interested in it first.

So if I have traffic from outsiders I will eventually get ville people contributing to the site.

If people appreciate your site as a community service then it is likely that you can persuade them to support you making Amazon purchases through your affiliate account and the occasional donation. I cover site costs for a community arts organisation of about the same size by this means.

Get good quality links from local organisations, media sites and local government. In turn create a directory of local organisations (don't have inbound links straight into the directory, its an SEO killer as I found out the hard way).

Get lots of hard copy and broadcast mentions, local newspaper and radio, church and other organisation newsletters etc.

Last but not least have well structured and interesting content that search engines will find and which people will want to read.
