Dreamweaver Issue

I am fairly new to web design, I am self taught from reading many many books and by mimic learning from other websites.

I recently learned the wonder of SSI and am using it in a project (making my life so much easier I might add!)

Now my issue is when I view a page in dreamweaver (my index.shtml page for example) I see all of the objects and design elements, but it doesn't show me my text in the body of my page in design view. One of the reasons I got dreamweaver was for the different views as well as functionality. But now its just not showing me all of the elements of the page that are actually there. I have to upload the page and view it from my host, which is getting really annoying.

Anyone know a fix for this or possibly some settings gone awry that can be reset?
