A "niche" is something like a little corner of a room, or a narrow window space, or a small place by the fire.

And, in web terms, it means something like that as well. Somewhere comfortable where you feel at home and can stretch out and make it difficult for anyone else to come in to take or share the space.

If I was an expert on widgets, and lived in Elbonia and spoke Elbonian as well, then I could have a good niche in Elbonian widgets (if anyone else was interested). And it would be difficult for anyone else to compete with me unless they too had my advantages.

Welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com], guille!

A search at your favorite search engine for "niche market" and similar terms should yield a wealth of information.

What do you know a lot about?

What interests you, what can you do better than most others?

Thats your "niche".

On the web finding a niche is all about finding a content area where you can do better than other sites that may happen to be in that specific niche.

On the web finding a niche is all about finding a content area where you can do better than other sites that may happen to be in that specific niche.

To add - a niche is not only a content area where you can do better but also - it is about finding an area of interest not only to you but to other people too. That is, an area interesting to your target group too.
