Site going down - why?

Puzzling loss of service

I have a few small sites hosted on a "reseller" hosting package where I can place any sites but just use it for mine.
For no apparent reason one site goes off line, usually at about the same time each morning. Later in the day it is OK again. Could this be a problem on the hosting side? Sometimes I find out when I go to ftp some files up and cuteftp can't connect. The host has obviously bought a reseller package himself and has been OK in every other way.

Yes, it could. I'd contact your host first and explain your situation and have them look into it for you.

Thanks, I have asked the host and although he says he is baffled too he is monitoring the site to check when and for how long its down. It seems funny that it's usually about the same time in the morning that it is unavailable.

Does your site have any advanced scripts that run at certain times? If not then there may be another user on the same server who does. This may use up a lot of resources and cause the server to not respond to HTTP requests. Not sayign this is the problem just one scinario.

All OK the last couple of days. My host may have tweaked something, I don't know. So much to learn and so small a brain!
