Hi,

I have started noticing in my logs visitors coming from gambling, sex and other non relevant sites. The thing is there going to page that no longer exist on my server. Pages that they should be getting a 404 page for. Is this some type of hijack? Thanks.

Hi and welcome to Webmasterworld!

It's likely just referrer spam... been going on for ages :(

Can referrer spam be stopped? Sort of....

If the referrer spam is coming from one particular IP or IP block, you can ban the spammer in your .htaccess file or by other means. But if the log-spamming is coming from all over, then you probably can not do much about it.

Note: As long as your processed logs aren't "public" (that is, as long as visitors and spiders can "see" them), it is my understanding that you're fine. Just don't click on those logfile links yourself. *smile*
