I am a novice and just completed my site after 8 months. Can somehone help guide me as far as
1) how to pull traffic to my site or what the best traffic software (or which reputable traffic generating site) I can purchase traffic leads from.
2)what is the best and cheapest tracking log software I can use to study and make necessary adjustmants to my site.
I have heard too many horror stories from traffic web sites that it's not worth bothering about ranking on search engines but rather concentrate on buying traffic. Please advise me which way to go and what is the cheapest route to go. Thanks.

Hi Meetingpointe - welcome to WebmasterWorld!

Congrats on completeing your site.
Pulling traffic...the best way would for sure be to get good search engine rankings :)

Google, Fast/ATW, Altavista, Inktomi, local engines, those list sites for free which makes for a pretty cost effective marketing.
To start getting indexed you need links to your site.
Fírst step would be to get a ODP listing. Also you could buy your way into Yahoo and some other directories, which give some traffic on their own, but also get the search engines to index your site.

Until the free traffic kicks in you could do PPC with Google adwords, Overture, Espotting and some other Pay Per Click engines.

As to the logging you might want to take a look into our dedicated forum:

There's a discussion running on tracking programmes:

Hope that helps! Don't hesitate to ask though.
