Ok so we followed Bretts 26 steps but he said
...submit your website to relevant search engines and then wait....
But Brett and Co., how do we really do this.

First there are many search engines out there. And many people here on this forum say forget the little engines as you might really get 0 to -10 traffic from them. However how important is it if i have a widget site and the page on that search engine is PR5 for widgets. Doesn't it make sense that I try to get a link there. AS MUCH IS MADE OF getting In Bound Links from several relevant sites that are about widgets. So a widget page in X search engine ranking PR5 must be a definate +.

However Brett & Co. how do we do this, many sites offer a 24.95 per URL to submit to 75,000 engines, no guarantee of indexing or otherwise. Pricey with no guarantee. Fraudulent in my opinion.

That being the case how do I get out of the doldrum for the six sites I have.

A.) Do I submit only the index page or all the URL's?
B.) Do hand submissions to the Biggies Google, Yahoo, MSN and DMOZ and forget everybody else?
C.) Go to free submissions site and submit?
D.) Use a Site Submission Software, if so which one do you recommend?
E.) Buy A site submission service like those 24.95 ones?

This is really bogging me down here. Most of my websites are information driven and use Adsense to compensate me for my time. I am aiming for at least 100 sites by Dec 2007. So submissions are a big thing for me.

HELP I am already drowning with just 6 sites!

You don't need to submit to SE's anymore - as long as you have some inbound links, they'll find you.

Submit (homepage or relevant page) once to directories and then forget all about them for 6 months.

No need, only two things for you to concentrate on:-

1. Create content (good quality, well-structured content).
2. Get links.

a) Neither
b) No hand submissions at all
c) No
d) No
e) No

Search engines can find you on their own. Just get some inbound links, get spidered, and then indexed. That's why Brett says to wait. If you really want, you could submit manually to MSN to start the ball rolling.

What might help you is to start with a clearly written plan for each site. I mean, spend time by setting out a plan for each site and check off each item as you carry out the work.

Link development [webmasterworld.com], as mentioned by my esteemed co-members, should be an ongoing activity, and is a lot more than just requesting links. ;)

Build relevant content as an ongoing programme.

Keep returning to the plan and keep updating it.

Its actually more than link development, you want it to be relevant links to your content. These days you don't need to submit to search engines as crawlers will find your site based on links.

Thanks,
Radic

Agree no point submitting to search engines.

However there is a point in submitting to dmoz and some other directories that are relevant for the site. Dmoz itself is a good source for other directories by location or trade, profession, ...

Dmoz by the way is very variable in how fast they respond - it could be days, months, a year or never but its worth a try. Submit once and forget it.

The links are the most importaint part of promotion. Not just the number, but more importaintly the quality. A small number of high quality inbound links will do you far more good than loads of poor quality links.

Not at present there isn't. ;) DMOZ submissions have been down for the last few weeks and there is no sign of them getting it sorted yet.

I would go to angelfire.com to upload your site. Angelfire has the most restrictive protocol and if your website works in Angelfire, you're probably good to go. Angelfire is free and the instructions for uploading are straightforward.
