If you have Photoshop or similar, you can use batch processing to change a large number of files. See this tutorial:

Hi - resizing jpgs on a mac is easy. drag the photos into iPhoto. Click on it to highlight it. Then under file menu, choose 'export'. A window opens. click on the radio button that says 'scale images no larger than'. the boxes wich have pixel sizes should become active. Type in the pixel size for either height or width. Click save. a navigation box rolls down to allow you to rename file & choose download location. then hit save again. Sinple. You can even resize a batch of photos ( all to the same size) this way.

I prefer GraphicConverter. It's shareware, about $40, and it's the kitchen sink of graphic file management.
