Preparing for ad approval?

Can you get ADs for a young site?

If the AD programs require so many hits per months as a requirement, is it possible to get ads before launch?

I guess this is my dilemma...a couple weeks ago had a site idea that I just had to build! Seems to be fairly common around here from what I've been reading heh. So with not knowing how to close a tag or the foggiest of what a frame or css was..I hit the online tutorials. Long story short. I went through the html phase in about 3 days..realized tables and frames are bulky...moved to div elements positions around the page all nice and fluid like. So I have 103 pages ready to go with a 380 line css to boot..built with..well what started out as the yahoo page builder(haha)...then to an old frontpage disc I had..then to VWD..I haven't seen this program mentioned much but wow..I didnt use any of the editing features except the quick find and replace made it possible to change content on all pages in a few clicks..will make updating easy..this is fun stuff I see how u all love it..anywho...more long story short...found the validator..114 errors to start..now down to 14..and none of which the error is pointing out isn't even in my code.. weird..so close enough I guessin...so it's live..and yes it's niche content. I followed the 100 steps to SEO tutorial to prepare for that..so let's say that's covered from a starter point of view...

I'm missing things like Privacy Policy and Terms of Use that alot of sites have at the bottom usually. How important is a site map? It isn't a complex ecommerce site..very easily navigated.

Yikes this is getting too long..bottom line...I read through a ton of affiliate programs and adsense registrations....and I've seen some fairly ugly sites with google ads on em..using adsense..mine does look nice..with tidy code..it's nothing but divs..and I was declined from adsense. Well, it might have been how plain the site looked before now..that denial inspired me to dress it up..now it looks really sharp..but I'm afraid of another denial..and and needn't bother trying for Yahoo because my content is a tad out of bounds for them...it's not porn or gambling related either..it's very original and I already know where to place my links (in those niche related areas with users of relevant interest) that will generate thousands per week to start..so I kinda was hopin for the ads before I let it loose if ya know what I mean?
even if it didn't work..I can't believe how cheap hosting fees are!

It's unlikely that a lack of traffic was the reason for the rejection; more likely a problem with content.

No offence intended, but 103 pages seems like at lot for 3 days work, especially given that you were learning to code at the same time. Are you confident that the quality of the content is good enough?

I don't use PPC ads on any of my sites, but I do know that for some affiliate programs having at least a privacy policy is required, because they want to be sure there's a clear boundary set between your privacy policy and their privacy policy(which goes into effect as soon as the customer clicks over to their site). It doesn't have to be complicated; look at some other sites that run ad programs similar to the ones you want to use, and see what they have as privacy policies.

Other than that, the one thing I see in your post that could be a problem is content that's "a tad out of bounds" for Yahoo. Are you sure it isn't "a tad out of bounds" for the other programs, too?

The appearance of your site shouldn't make a difference, but anything that doesn't fit the regulations could (lack of privacy policy, copyright infringement, adware in use, etc.). Read through the TOS again and see if there's anything on your site that they may not like.

But first, maybe you should go take a nap ;) With everything you list that you've learned and done in the last two weeks, I assume you didn't have time to sleep!

I can't answer your question about ads before launch, because I have a similar situation in regard to an affiliate program I'm looking at. There's a minimum number of unique visitors per month a site has to have in order to qualify (which, you can guess, mine doesn't quite have). But they do consider applications for sites that haven't launched yet. I suppose they figure they are good judges of sites that will make it big after launch (and, yeah, they probably are).
