Canonical problems caused by internal page links?

Is this a possibility?

Recently, I used Dreamweaver's "Change Links Sitewise" to change all my site's internal "/index.html" links to "/".

I then discovered that all my internal page (bookmark) links in my Amazon store section had been changed too. At the bottom of every page, I have a "Back to Top of Page" link, ie:

<a href="#top">TOP OF PAGE</a>

All of these had been changed to read:

<a href="http://www.mysite.com/#top">TOP OF PAGE</a>

Which when clicked, took you to the site's home page instead of to the top of that same page.

I changed them all back, but now I'm rather alarmed. If Dreamweaver interpreted all my internal page links as /index.html, is Google doing the same thing? Could this be a part of my recent canonization problem?

Especially since I only added these internal page links recently.

Or am I just being fuzzy-headed about why this happened in Dreamweaver?

Dreamweaver does strange things occasionally. So does Google.

But so far - touch wood - their strangeness does not coincide.

Fix the Dreamweaver error, and things should be OK.

If they are not - then it's a different problem.

I've fixed the Dreamweaver error, as far as I know -- I just found a bunch more places where I used internal page links I forgot about, that of course got changed! Whatta mess.

Thanks, Quadrille -- that's reassuring -- I think.

Sounds promising - now check ALL your links with Xenu, and you could be home and dry ...

Will do.... I actually realized I already HAD Xenu...downloaded it at least a year ago. But it was a little more than I knew what to do with at the time.
