Can anyone advice me about site promotion. How can I promote my site free or with a little budget.

Depends greatly on the subject.

If it is a niche, the cheapest way to start promoting a site is to join into the discussion on forums related to that niche. People really do click on the links in sig lines.

There are niche specific directories here and there, and it might be worth it to get listed in those.

I started by submitting my site to as many free directories as possible. Do searches for "your business type directories".

Then I researched where all my competitors were listed. Put "free link popularity check" into Google. Then check the links to all your competitors and try to get links to your own website from these. Check all your competitors.

This will lead on to other things that will lead on to more. Should keep you busy for a while.

This may be a dumb question but here it goes. If links are a major way to optimize your site and we are all here make our sites better why don't we look at exchanging links with the appropriate parties here. Is there something wrong with this or? I realize that we all want to outdo others and want to disclose some information but of course not the "top secrets" but I was just wondering isn't there a way that we can help each other with the links? Thanks for your thoughts.
