Anybody knows how to edit a finished FLASH file?

Sorry for still another silly question. But honestly I know nothing about FLASH. I bought a web templates CD and there're lots of great flash files in it. I know the software used to make a FLASH file is macromedia FLASH, right? I just got that software installed and opened the FLASH file in it but have no idea how to begin with. The interfaces look pretty much like Dreamweaver. But all the buttons are grey and functions unavailable. Anybody here knows how to edit a finished FLASH file? TIA

I can creat a new FLASH file and edit it at will. But can't revise a finished one with it. Is it because the original designer has put some code into the file so that other people can't plagiarize his work?

hi sewpersbider,

are the files writeable? Are you trying to change them from the CD? if they still are on the CD they won't be writeable so you won't be able to change them. try saving everything on your computer and opening the file again.

Hope this helps.

Is it a .fla file or an .swf?

Kind of similar to image editing - with a .psd or .png you can still edit what goes into the file, with a .jpg or .gif you can only deal with the finished product.

Thanks you two for your kind answer. It's a swf format file. I can only play it in macrosoft FLASH but can't edit it. Do I need a cracker or something to crack it open?

And what's the average price for a professional FLASH LOGO?

the .swf file cannont be modified by Flash as it is the compiled movie.

You may want to contact the person you bought the .swf file from and ask them to send you the .fla file. Otherwise, and only if you own all the rights to the product you may want to look at flash decompilers.
