Hi Everyone,

I have been lurking here for awhile but now I need help so here goes.

I am running a small (new) political site with virtual hosting using simple HTML that I intended to be the first of several (I have 2 domains purchased). Recently I started experimenting with the Fantastico scripts and I am starting to realize that I might want to run one large site that could encompass my various interests which are politics, American history, true crime, television and media and probably some other stuff. Here’s why.

One major advantage (as I se it) is I could run everything under one domain (perhaps with sub-domains). This would work out very well while I am still using virtual hosting and I could expand to dedicated when possible.

I want to monetize my sites of course, but I am not interested in running “for Adsense” sites or ecommerce or anything like that. I am writing all my own original content. The way I like to work is to find something I am interested in and work for a couple weeks or a month on that and then move to another area which may be completely different. It works for me and I stay fresh that way. I am content to build things a little at a time since I am semi-retired and have the time to do it.

So here is what I am asking:

1. Does this sound like a viable situation?

2. What CMS would be best for me? I am working on a limited budget so I would prefer free open source. It would have to be fully customizable and very secure especially if all my eggs are in one basket. It should be SEO friendly with “good URLs”. Most of the stuff I see is blog and community based and I am not sure that would be best for me. I would like to have the option of running forums where appropriate though. Most of all it should be easy to use, or as easy as a powerful CMS can be.

I tried Joomla a little today but it seemed difficult to work with. I originally used Frontpage and everything looked great in IE6 but was all wrong in Firefox, so I had to do much tedious fixing by hand.

I really like the look of the CMSs too-very professional. Is there a CMS that will fit my needs?

Thanks
