That is quite interesting!
Can anyone go further and discuss what are the qualities of a good website? Ie; graphics, navigation, etc
I also find the Web Pages that Suck" quite handy to look at, to see where you are going wrong, etc
Are there any general "rule of thumb" guides to go by?

The first impressions count for any sphere of human activity to some extent. For some they are of great importance whereas for others where people tend to trust their conclusions not impressions they are not. In relation to web sites, to my opinion, it depends largely on the specialization of the site and if priority (due to it) is given to site content or design. If it's given to the latter, naturally the first impressions might be crucial.
