redirecting pages

because of change in site structure

i am chancing my site structure. and i want to redirect

www.mydomain.com/subject/page.htm (old)

www.mydomain.com/subject/page/ (new)

what can I add to .htaccess

will there any negative effect in google listing after the change?

hi there showtime.

try googleing for :

site:webmasterworld.com 301 permanent redirect

plenty of very good reading from there.

The benefits of using the 301 is that Google and suposedly Yahoo will replace the old page with the new in their index and stop trying to access it.

Google will also pass on any Google PageRank value that the old page had to the new one.

i am using cpanel control panel. And there is a redirect section and you can set permanent redirects there is that enough
