Hey guys, I am starting a site dedicated to game previews and press releases. Would plain html be good for this? Over time if the site is worth keeping up it may have hundreds of pages. Is there some easier way to do this before I get in to deep, such as mysql php something along those lines? Thanks.

Any type of database driven site will be easier to maintain in the long run. There is some controversy over the merits of using .asp, .php, .cf, etc. when if when it comes to spiderability (is that a word?) for the search engines. Some say you should set up so the engines don't know it's a db. I have had no problems though. All my sites are db driven and a few are doing rather well in the SERPS. If the site takes off and you go from a few hundred pages to a few thousand, the merits of a db driven site will definitely pay off in the long run. Just my 2 cents.

Just make sure your pages are spiderable, or else all of your work will be for nuffin!

Using (PHP and) Apache allows you more control over the way that the site is spidered, URL rewrites, blocking spiders, canonicalisation, etc.

I would look for a good content managment system which is capable of handling a large number of sites. There are several good Open Source CMS available like Typo3 or Mambo.

I would definitely recommend a CMS (I use PostNuke). PHPNUKE looks like it has undergone a lot more development so I don't know what their reliability is these days. Any questions about it pm me
