Avoiding blog spam

I started 3 blogs. What I notice on all of them is that the replies are often from people who end with 'see my blog' and an obvious blog that sells something. It is clear they just accessed the blog to advertise to you and never read it. Are all the people with blogs going round clicking on each others blogs just to increase ratings or what? I can't see what good it would do as surely nobody is going to go see adverts on most of this stuff - though I did click on one selling knitting, of all things once (at least that was vaguely interesting!) -but insurance? cars? mortgages?

Wouldn't anyone wanting such things just google them?

So why do all these people do it? What am I missing. Surely the people you want are those who DON"T have a blog reading yours? Is it just another way of getting links, with the hope that you will go to their blog and say something like - great site, see mine?

Welcome to Spam 2.0. First they ruin email, now they're ruining blogs. Get used to it.

The interesting thing is the one with MONEY in the title gets most spam, in fact it gets all the spam...... and the one with CAT gets people who really do want to pretend they are a cat - or more accurately THEIR cat.

Maybe I should start a blog with the words cat and money in the title just to see what happens!
