Hi,

I wonder if someone can give some advice.

I wrote an ebook some months ago that is related to careers and shyness. It is currently selling at $5.95 and I have been told by several people that I should be selling it for a higher price.

I would also like to start an affiliate program or something similar, where a person helping me to sell it would receive a commission. I was thinking of putting the price up to around $10.00 - $11.00.

What I would like to know is how can I continue to sell it for a little while at the original price and let people know at the same time that I will be putting the price up? I want to be using the right phrase to do this.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards

Andrea

Come out with a version 2.0. Add some new content and sell them both for a while. Pick a time and drop the original from the line-up.

Hi,

Thank you for replying. Actually, that sounds like a good thing to do. I am not sure whether to do that or perhaps that the price is currently $5.95 and that it will soon be going up to $10.00 - $11.00 (whatever price I decide)on a certain date.

An additional advantage to going my route is that you may be able to resell version 2.0 to purchasers of 1.0 who were very happy with it.

Just make sure that you add significant value to the new version in this case or you will have some very upset customers.

Hi,

Thank you again for replying. Perhaps I should increase the current ebook version to around $10.00 - $11.00 and then update it to sell it for a higher price.

Add new content, update a few things, then mark up the price.

The advantage to higher pricing is you can always run periodic sales or offer discount coupons to increase sales when it gets slow. When you only sell it at a rock bottom price you have no wiggle room to drum up extra business.

Hi,

Thank you for your advice.

Do you think that some affiliate would have an interest in helping me to sell it at even $11?

If you spend the money to get on one of the affiliate networks you will likely find "someone" to give it a try. The quality of your affiliates will depend on the ROI.

There are a few ways of looking at this. By virtue of the fact it is selling I assume it must be doing well.

By selling the product cheap you will get more sales. By selling the product dearer you will get less sales. Question is will you end up making more money by selling it cheap but in higher quantity, or dearer but in smaller volume.

The idea to bring out a version 2 is a great. If I where you I would wait until January and bring out a 2006 version. This gives you plenty of time to polish up the content. You can keep on selling the current version at the current price, and offer the brand new 2006 version for a few bucks more.

Glad to see you are making sales. :)

Hi,

Thank you for replying. I think what you suggest is a good idea. I'll probably continue selling it for the same price for now or a little higher and then increase the price again sometime.
