Hi,

Can anyone please explain to me what is meant by 'page impressions' with google adsense. I realise that people do not have to click on the ads. However, does it mean that people have to land on the pages to get paid any page impressions?

I am sorry to confuse you.

Thanks for your advice.

Regards

Andrea

This term does not have to be specific to Adsense. A page impression is when a user views a page. This is a very common term used when refering to tracking.

Page impression - sometimes called a page view.

A hit - A request for a file.

Unique user - One person who visits your site.

For example you have a webpage, it was one page pf html, a logo and a grapgical image at the site. If a person view this page you will get.

one unique visitor, one page impression and three hits. The three hits are caused by the server delivering three files. The page, the logo and the graphic.

In terms of Adsense. They show page impressions and number of clicks. This is used to work out how many pages are shown for each click through on an advert. This is refered to as ctr (click through rate)

Hope this helps.

Mack.

Hi,

Thank you Mack for replying with the information. So, a page impression is when someone arrives at a web page, whether it's through the search engines, through links or whatever. How do we know then which adsense ads pay per click or per page impression?

Basically, you it's pretty hard to tell which is which. CPM ads can show as either image ads or expanded text ads.

But image ads can also be pay per click.

Your Adsense stats don't break down CPM vs PPC either.

The Adsense Forum [webmasterworld.com] has more information on this.
