I need some advice on obsolete websites where the url is retained. I hope this doesnt sound too confusing:
Can anyone advise how to overwrite a website that is years old and previously submitted to various directories, but has long since been re-designed and re-published?
Ive basically used the same url for all design changes and yet still come across older obselete versions of my site on various directories. msn for example show 2 versions of my site (the recent one is ppc and therefore driven by Ov) and I dont have a clue how to rectify the problem. Meanwhile Im confusing customers and like most people you always think your last piece of work is your best so I want rid.
Why is this happening and how do I resolve the issue?
Any help appreciated
Clancy
I'm not sure I understand your question, but if you are seeing old descriptions of your site in human-edited directories, then you'll have to contact them to re-review your site and/or update your listing.
If you are seeing old copies of your pages popping up in browsers, that's a caching problem. Users must flush their caches to clear out the old copy (which is in their computer). Hitting Shift-Reload is one way to force the browser to actually re-load the site.
If neither of these address your problem, please re-post with more detail.

Glad to hear it! You can configure your server to control cacheability to prevent this problem in the future. Basically, you specify how long individual files, groups of files by filetype, groups of files in specific directories, or combinations of these groupings should be cached.
Here is a decent caching tutorial [mnot.net] and a cacheability tester [ircache.net] as a starting point.
