Googling my name shows I have something right in terms of getting picked up by google. However of course, my name is unlikely to bring me traffic because only someone who knows what my name is is likely to bother to google it! Really, nobody is likely to think "Ah I will just google Iwrites real name and find out what she does." It IS useful to me to be able to say; google me and you will get to me, to people I meet, so I do want to continue to get picked up in that way.

Actually, it is picked up well on other search engines as well. I must have done something that makes me get that ranking for my name - but I really need the ranking for something that gets me the traffic.

How do I work out what I need to do. I have what I think are relevant keywords, and the keyword tools you can find for free seem to say they are good for the site.

I have one keyword that I would have thought would be searched fairly frequently - at least by people in my field in the title.

The reason that you're ranking well for your name is probably because it's not a very competitive keyword. Unfortunately, as well as being un-competitive, it's also probably not searched for very often!

How does your site do for your other (relevant) keywords/phrases? Once you've decided on your keywords, you need to optimise your site for them. That's way too complex a process to go through in one post... you're better off doing some research in these forums:
