Server-side redirects

Server side or 302/301?

Is it ok to use a server side redirect?

Lets say I sell credit cards and my application page lives on a different domain to my "promotion" domain

In other words, I am promoting example.com but I want people tp go straight to my main application domain.

Would it be better to put some content on the promotion domain with a link to the application domain?
Should I implement a 302 redirect?

Or is it "ethical" to use a server side redirect?

I think it is important to have content on the site you are promoting, unless of course you are purely using ppc to supply your users.

If you are only using ppc then an immediate redirect may be the way to go. On the other hand you could just point your advert right at the sign up page.

If you are planning to market your site using search engines and good old fashioned SEO you really need content on the site. Without content the site isn't really a site and there is little to effectively promote.
