I appear to be non apache servers - is this likely?

They have no .htaccess file, and creating one make no difference. Can I use Java, HTML or some code written on each page, to exclude certain IPs?

Welcome to WebmasterWorld User59,

Do you know what type of server it is? There may be a similar type of blocking available.

I assume in your use of JAVA you mean javascript? You may be able to do that with javascript but I think it would be better performed by a server side language such as php/perl/asp/coldfusion among others.

Thank you for your kind welcome (which I should have had said yesterday).

One server is the eNom service, identifies itself as
web.ehost-services.com
Microsoft FTP Service
Windows_NT

The other:
62.17.252.55
ProFTPD 1.2.10 Server (FTP Server)
UNIX Type: L8
Data connection 51572A connected.

Any idea from that what type they are?
