I've got apache 2.0.53 running and am starting to learn .net. When I try to open a new web project I get a message I should upgrade to asp.net 1.1 (it says I'm running asp.net 1.0)

Went to apache.org to see if there was a download and couldn't find it. Can someone direct me to how where to get asp.net 1.1?

Went to the link you posted thanks

Installed the .net framework 1.1

Tried to open a new c# web application and still got the message that I'm running asp.net 1.0

I have rebooted since the install

I went to the developers page for asp.net - it said to check to see what version - this is what it told me :

<
1. Checking for .NET Framework
You have version 2.0.50215 of the .NET Framework installed.

If you see Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1.4322 listed, the latest version is already installed and you do not need to install it again.

Now I'm very confused

With knowing nothing about Apache, I would assume you're looking for the Apache equivalent of IIS's "aspnet_regiis.exe -i" command.

Not much help, but maybe someone else will have an idea.
