Can someone please elaborate (or correct me if i'm wrong) which files should be FTP uploaded to my virtual host in BINARY format and which files should be uploaded in ASCII format. Here's what I think I know...

.PL .CGI .GIF .JPG .PNG .ZIP should be uploaded in BINARY format (yes?).

.HTML .PHP .TPL .TXT should be uploaded in ASCII format (yes?).

How about .INC (ASCII or BINARY?). Anything else?

Any plain text files should be transferred in ASCII while any image and files that have been created by other programs in binary.

So INC would more than likely be all text and ASCII. Most FTP programs are already programmed for all of this so you should not have any problems.

It is also my understanding that any MS word document should be transferred in binary.

And I think that if you are in doubt, binary can be ok. There is also an old thread [webmasterworld.com] here.
