Changing Design

Will I lose traffic if I change the design of my site

I've just started a new job and I'm re-designing our site. The pages are ranking well, but the design is quite amateur and is a bit tatty. I'll use the same page descriptions, meta tags and the conent will be as good. But I'm worried that if some small things get lost my Search Engine ranking will go down the pan.

Can anyone help please?

It's impossible to say but if you watch what your doing with respect to the Title and Description tags and retain the original page and URL titles then I would say that your traffic is more likely to increase.

You would also do well to ensure that each page maintains a similar KW density. But if you are changing the content this should not be problem.

Another importaint point is to ensure the page url's remain the same on well ranked pages. You may however want to alter some url's on low traffic, or non ranked pages.

Here is a little insight for you.

Changing your design 3-6 times a year is VERY good and you will see a HUGE increase in traffic. Its another technique to keep your site fresh and new. What you dont want to do is change all your title tags and heading tags. I would suggest making your site into a CSS site and having your files named site1.css site2.css and so on.. and just do a sitewide replace on your site for which CSS file it uses. Youll see this technique make a huge difference for your earnings in your sites. Believe me.
