Does anyone know how to use these?

Where do you put your sitemap code? Do you just paste it in the body of your website somewhere.

The instructions that Google supplies are very vague.

I agree that Google's instructions could be better. I suggest that you search for "How to use Google Sitemaps".

There are many easy to follow instructions out there.
