Hello, I know there are zillions of companies that promote this kind of software. But to my surprise there are some notable people in the SEO world that given thumbs up on a few commercial applications. Can a real good software take my bare bones site without any keywords or tags at all and optimize it? I'm not expecting top ranking, but do they work?
Hi there, As jatar_k pointed out the best way to activly SEO or promote your site is to do the ground work yourself. The link is to a very high quality thread that covers all the basics needed to acheive high rankings.
Any software that is able to make a page rank well, will leave footprints behind. It is those footprints that can effectivly get you penalised by search engines.
IMO there is no better way than doing it manualy.

They can help you in getting your web site ready for the search engines, they can save you some time, but using them alone to SEO isn't going to work, you got to do most of it on your own for the best results.

So they would at least help get a site that does not have a single keyword or tag get started?
