I recently bought a yahoo domain name and I want to build a website myself. Can someone tell me where I can start or where I will get the necessary knowledge for this. Appreciate your time.
Thank you

Hi Swamy,

It really depends on your knowledge in regards to building websites. You could have someone build you a database that is search engine friendly and then you can build as many wep-ages as needed with very little knowledge on building websites.

Of course optimization of each webpage is a different story, but you can learn all you need to know in here.

Hi Swamy

1st its really important to be sure what you want in your site...the kind of content, the size of the site, dynamic or static, text based or more graphics...things like that.

2nd is your purpose. if you want the site to start giving you good returns right from the start, go for some professional services. if it is largely hobby based and more importantly if you intend to initially learn how the web works, by doing things practically, theres no better place to learn than the web itself.

if you want to do things your own youll need some reliable software to design/develop your site. id suggest (though many people will probably disagree with me) macromedia dreamweaver mx 2004. if you have a tool like that just spend some with it, play with the controls and features and i bet you will have made your first webpage by the end of the first day!

theres a lot to do to get a site running, but if you love this job youll find it very very enjoyable. but first thing is to get the site design right. HTML+CSS+tutorial. that needs to be your search keyphrase on google now for sometime. when you start learning it will be like pandoras box opening for you...:)

hope this long sermon helps :)
btw yahoo...do you mean geocities? they have a online tool called sitebuilder or sitewizard or something. stay away from it! easy solution to webdesign may be but will limit your potentials in the long run

best of luck

I'd recommend going to Barnes and Noble, Books-A-Million or similar type store and browsing through the HTML and website design books and find at least two that fit your experience and knowledge level. The large bookstores are like libraries now and you take a stack of books, sit down in a comfortable chair, and see which ones you like before you buy them.
